CAMP MARCELO A. ADDURU, TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan – Police Regional Office 2 through the Regional Investigation and Detective Management Division (RIDMD) recorded a 36.52% drop of index crimes in Region 2 for the second quarter of 2024 as compared to the same period in 2023.
As reflected in the Peace and Order Indicator, PRO2 registered a total of 179 index crimes which is lower by 103 or 36.52% as compared to the 283 crimes recorded in April to June 2023. The statistical distribution of reported crimes includes 59 in Cagayan; 52 in Isabela; 51 in Nueva Vizcaya; 10 in Santiago City; 6 in Quirino and 1 in Batanes.
Index crimes are mainly Crimes against Persons, Crimes against Properties and other serious offenses. Theft decreased by 3 or 5.88% from 51 to 48; Rape decreased by 55 or 58.51% from 94 to 39; Physical Injury decreased by 23 or 50% from 46 to 23; Robbery decreased by 8 or 27.59% from 29 to 21; Murder decreased by 8 or 29.63% from 27 to 19 crimes; Carnapping of motorcycles decreased by 5 or 22.73% from 22 to 17; Homicide increased by 3 or 33.33% from 9 to 12; Special Complex Crime decreased by 3 or 100% from 3 to 0; and Carnapping motor vehicles decreased by 1 or 100% from 1 to 0.
Moreover, PRO2 also recorded a 2.17% decrease in non-index crimes with 813 registered crimes as compared to the 831 crimes recorded in the previous period. Non-Index Crimes include violations of Special Laws and local ordinances.
Meanwhile, the RIDMD also disclosed that a total of 144 Top Most Wanted Persons and 721 Wanted Persons were arrested in this year’s second quarter. Hence, PRO2’s Crime Solution Efficiency increased by 82.70% wherein a total of 1,487 cases were already solved.
