In an effort to strengthen partnerships and minimize environmental impact through sustainable waste management, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Cagayan Valley pooled thousands of partners in the recent regionwide simultaneous cleanup activity.

Spearheaded by Regional Executive Director Gwendolyn Bambalan of DENR Region 2, the cleanup drive generated more than 20,000 kg of recyclable, non-recyclable, and hazardous wastes.

“Let us all be conscious and mindful of the waste that we generate individually each day. In this simple way, we can make a big difference for the planet,” Director Bambalan said, emphasizing the important role the informal waste sector plays in creating a sustainable future.

In celebration of National Zero Waste Month, the event was participated in by environmental stakeholders from municipal and barangay local government units, and national government agencies, including law enforcement institutions, non-government organizations, civil society organizations, commercial establishments, academe, and private sectors.

Civil Service Commission Regional Director Marites Lappay and Acting Regional Director Maria Noemi Bustamante, Professional Regulation Commission Regional Director Juan Alilam Jr., National Housing Authority Regional Manager Luis Bacamante, Tuguegarao City Environment and Natural Resources Officer Marcelino Gumabay, and Carig Sur Punong Barangay Perpetua Narag also joined in the cleanup held at the regional government center.#
