CITY OF ILAGAN, Isabela-Filipina tennis star Alexandra Eala stunned another bigwig, Latvia’s Jelena Ostapenko with a hard-earned 7-6 (2), 7-5, on early Saturday (Philippine time) in the Miami Open’s Round of 64.
Ranked no. 140 by WTA, Eala came through with grit to defeat 2017 French Open champion and WTA no. 25 Ostapenko.
She advanced to the Round of 32 to face either World No. 5 Madison Keys of the United States or Elina Avanesyan of Armenia who are still playing, as of this writing.
Eala earlier won over World No. 73 Katie Volynets of the United States.#
