SANTIAGO CITY, Isabela––A policeman allegedly shot dead Monday a 32-year-old police officer inside their barracks in Dupax del Sur town, Nueva Vizcaya province, authorities said.
Investigators identified the victim as Patrolman James Canceran, 32, of Sta. Maria town in Isabela province. He belonged to the 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Company (PMFC) in Nueva Vizcaya.
Lt. Col. Joeberman Videz, 2nd PMFC commander, said Canceran was a building guard and was preparing for his duty when Patrolman Joshua Cebo allegedly shot him about 8 a.m.
Cebo claimed that he was unloading his 9mm service firearm when it accidentally went off and hit Canceran’s abdomen.
The police said Canceran was declared dead on arrival at a hospital.
The two were classmates at the Philippine National Police’s Public Safety Basic Recruit Course who got their Patrolman rank each after their graduation.
Cebo is facing charges for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide.(Villamor Visaya Jr., Philippine Daily Inquirer News Correspondent)
