TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines–Cagayan Board Member Maila Ting-Que defeated incumbent Mayor Jefferson Soriano, who had sought reelection.
Ting-Que was officially proclaimed by the board of canvassers on Tuesday morning, May 10. She is touted to be the first female city mayor here.
She urged her supporters and rivals to unite after the elections.
Ting-Que’s late father, Delfin, and brother Randolph served as longtime mayors of the city before Soriano took over.
Soriano lost in his attempt for a fourth consecutive term.
Ting-Que (Liberal Party) got 39,919 votes to beat Soriano (Nationalist People’s Coalition), who got 37,552 votes.#
